The Elephant Collection

So do you remember those flash elephant games from when the internet used to be good? This is them bringing that through to Steam in a playable form. Of course you could still just play the original versions on Flashpoint, but this collection has extra developer commentary, challenge achievements, and secrets.

There isn’t really much I can say about this since for me, it was simply a wild nostalgia trip, so for those who weren’t around in the time of online gaming before the age of Roblox and Fortnite, this is a pretty good dip into what the vibes of the mid ’00s felt like, all through the lens of a little blue elephant from a collection of old flash games. Impressively they still hold up, decades after their time, but unfortunately some parts of Elephant Quest and Achievement Unlocked 3 still suffer from the classic flash era lag when there are too many entities or effects on screen.

The collection bookends itself with Elephant Rave. jmtb02’s first elephant game, where you vibe and dodge columns of lights raining down from above, and then after deciding the elephant’s legacy, you’re plunged to the bottom of the tower, where you can then access each of the 9 Elephant games, each one having 3 requirements to unlock memories. Earlier games just tie these to progress, but later on the games have more esoteric challenges to unlock the memories. Once you collect 24 memories (out of 30), you unlock the final part of the game, which I shaln’t spoil, but I will say it made my eyes well up when I first played it.

As of writing, the Elephant Collection covers every jmtb02 Elephant game except for Loot The Game. But some time soon a free update will be adding Loot and Elephant Rave 2 into the collection, and that might have even happened between me writing this and publishing it.
