Cat spotting. It’s like bird watching. A relaxing activity for when you’re struggling and life is being overwhelming and you just want something to do to take your mind off it.
This series of games made by a team of rescued cats to raise awareness are point and click hidden object games, which isn’t usually in my wheelhouse, but when you’re in the mood for something simple like that, this is the place to be.
Each game consists of a number of hand-drawn scenes littered with a bunch of cats, cat pictures, cat doodles, and vaguely cat-shaped blobs, and your job is to find them all! A counter in the top left indicates how many cats are left in the current scene. Be careful though, as some cats might be hiding out of sight and require you to click on their hiding place before they peek out at you and let you click on them too.
Of the 11 games by this team, I’ve played 3 of them, and each follow a general gameplay loop of having to reach a threshold of found cats as well as potentially some key navigation items in order to move on to the next area.
All three games have also included a hint system, though whether that is available from the start or as a reward for a chain of puzzles depends on the game. In general though, it’ll move your screen to the closest cat and highlight it for a bit.
