He’s done it again! Our favourite vegetable commits heinous atrocities for fun, part two. What do you mean I haven’t spoken about the time he committed tax evasion (whoops, I’ll put that out eventually, that game is good too.)
Needless to say, it helps to have played the first game just to have a feel as to who most of the characters are, since with the exception of the new antagonists, a lot of the food folk are returning characters. Unlike the first game however, instead of parodying Zelda, we’re now parodying Hotline Miami.
This game is dumb. Like really dumb. It’s honestly what games as a medium was truly designed to be: dumb fun for the sake of entertainment. You play as a sentient turnip with a gun as you mow down sentient bacon and donut cops while you try and grab as much money from a bank in 3 minutes before trying to escape without dying.
Unlike a roguelike, the map layout is fixed, the only random elements are which elevator doors lead to which rooms as they shuffle between themselves every run. Weapon drops are also randomised, though as you progress more, you can choose from a wider selection of starting weapons, or keep the weapons you got from last run to go into the next with. Though be mindful because if you die, you lose all your weapons and have to start from the armoury basics again.
The game also has a bunch of quests that are just, this game has a really good sense of humour, it leans into parodying its medium as well as all the other stuff going on in the *gestures vaguely everywhere*, and the climax of the game is frankly just batshit insane, which if you’ve played the first Turnip Boy game you’ll know what I mean.
It’s a short game that’ll take around a weekend to complete to 100%, though the finale is a bit of a difficulty spike, so hopefully it doesn’t give you as much trouble as it did for me.
