Rare find for this page, a visual novel, but it’s an incredible and emotional story, told in a most exquisit way. Knowing things about the game won’t detract too much from the experience, but I still do want to recommend going in blind.

If you want to know the story, you’re in a post apocalyptic bunker, learning the history of your god figure and the fate of humanity. This takes place through Communions with your fellow Sisters. Watcher, the Blue sister, is charged with performing these communions and learning from the memories of the ALLMOTHER. During a communion, you can flick forward and backwards through timesteps to access new areas and characters, as well as explore the space and solve some puzzles.

I absolutely adore this method of storytelling because of just how spacial it feels. It’s not like other visual novels, where you just click through the textboxes, you have to witness what’s going on around you, and walk up to people to see what they have to say. Characters move around between timesteps, have private conversations, hide in areas that may be difficult to spot or reach, and you get to experience what happened in this place to these people at the same time as the people in the scenes experience what’s happening.

After your first Communion, which I refuse to spoil, you’ll wake up in the Orchard, and given a chance to explore, talk to the shells, and talk to your other Sisters, before performing the next Communion. Communions serve as a form of chapter barrier, so it’s a nice way to progress the story at your own pace.

The story is incredibly emotional and in a way, also powerful. I spent most of my playthrough basically spamming my stream of consciousness at my friends who had already beaten the game, and the amount of revelations throughout the stories that hit me, as well as all the foreshadowing I noticed leading up to those reveals. Very very well done, 10/10.

The game took me about 4 evenings to beat, about 12 hours or so. It doesn’t overstay it’s welcome.
