Spirit of the North

Spirit of the North is a fox game in its purest form. You play as a fox, like, an actual fox, who can yip and wag their tail. Eventually you meet a friendly spirit fox who will help guide you on your adventure and try to explain to you what’s going on.

As you travel through the land, you’ll encounter the corpses of lost shamans, which you can free by bringing their staffs back to them, and collecting all the shamans in one chapter will reward you with a new skin for your fox. I got the arctic fox skin and it made my entire week because look, it me, am snowy fonx. You most likely wont find all the shamans on your first playthrough, though, but after you complete a chapter you can return to it with the chapter select and it’ll tell you how many are there and how many you missed.

The game does have a plot but it’s told through obscure cave paintings and environmental story telling. It purposly has no dialogue or narrative as it tells its tale of nordic folklore, but it all comes together at the end beautifully. Absolutely worth the experience even if only once.
