This is a weird one because its not just a game, but rather a whole series of games made by a single developer. The games all belong to the same genre: Point and click puzzle games. Starting as a series of flash games, the publishers have bundled all their early works up into a single game, the Cube Escape Collection (Steam £3.99, Itch.io $4.99,) but of course, you could also just download the SWF files from Kongregate and load them up in Flashpoint or another flash player.
The games all exist within the same universe, and follow the same set of core characters through time, with the earliest game taking place in the late 1700s, and the latest taking place in the 1900s. I’d recommend playing the games in release date order rather than chronological order though, otherwise you’d be doing a lot of game hopping.
The game does have a bit of an unsettling ambience and the occasional scare chord or psychological horror aspects (content warnings for bugs, corpses, ritual sacrifice, oh and one scene of war flashbacks) but they tend to be more few and far between.
Rusty Lake also just released a new game in the series, The Past Within, which is a Coop game, where one player plays in the past, and the other player plays in the future, and they have to communicate with eachother. I have not yet played The Past Within, but I will be playing it very soon with my partners.

Cube Escape Paradox is free to play chapter 1, then £2.09 for chapter 2.
