Oh boy, first Triple A game on this list. Anyways, have you ever heard of the SCP Foundation? This is basically that but with an actually coherent world and story, and less unkillable monsters. You play as a “parautilitarian”, someone who can control “paranatural” forces, and the new head of the Federal Bureau of Control, and have to use your paranatural abilities and trusty service weapon to fend off an invasion.
The world design feels like it should be repetitive and samey, as the vast majority of the game takes place in a late 20th century brutalist office building, but exploring is actually super rewarding, and the lack of a minimap, or waypoint markers telling you exactly which paths to follow means that you really are navigating and learning the building by reading the signs while you explore.
I don’t normally play many Triple A games, a lot of the developers and publishers genuinely don’t deserve nearly as much money or attention as they get, especially the ones that use their status and wealth as a way to hide their worker abuses and internal issues, but as far as I or anyone I know can tell, Remedy Entertainment isn’t burdened by these sort of things, which is a pretty solid blessing considering how gripping their world design, connected universe building, and lore stuff are to me.
